Guidelines for Mrs. Small 2019-2020 Second Grade Class

  • Classroom Rules will be discussed and posted in the classroom.
  • School rules will be discussed.  They will also be reviewed throughout the year.

*Students are expected to read 20 minutes per night. 

*Written homework will be assigned as review or reinforcement of skills taught in the classroom.

*Parents should sign homework assignment pages and written homework assignments daily.
*Tests and assessments will be sent home with your child and will be required to be signed and sent back to school the next day.  They will be returned by the end of the school year.

  • Projects will be assigned throughout the year in different subject areas. 
  • Absences

*Attendance in class and family support are extremely important to help the students succeed.  Students who are absent will be required to make up the missed work. 

*If your child is absent from school, a note must be brought in the following day.

*Homework will only be sent home for students absent from school more than three days,

or upon request with advanced notice. 

  • The curriculum will be taught according to the New York State Common Core Standards, and guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
  • If you wish to be a class parent, please sign the paper on the blackboard.  The names of the interested people will be placed together in a bucket and two name will be picked out.
  • Please send lunch money in a sealed envelope.  Please write your child’s name, grade, and lunch choice on the envelope.
  • Snack time is in the morning.  Please send in a healthy snack and drink each day. 
  • If you would like to send something in for your child’s birthday, we ask that is not food.

  • The Second Grade Class Page will be a good source of information for any announcements, assignments, updates, etc.  Please try to check it often on our school’s web site.

     I look forward to a wonderful year!  Our rules and routines in second grade will help each student become more independent, self-confident, and organized.  This will help each student reach his or her potential and help with future educational goals.   I hope to continue their love of learning!
